Oper für alle
Rigoletto – free open-air screening
As of 21 June 2014, "opera for all" will transform the newly designed Sechseläutenplatz into an open-air theatre with a live screening from the Opera House every year. For the first time in Zurich, viewers on the square will be able to watch an opera broadcast live from the auditorium on an 85 m² LED screen. Both opera aficionados and novices are invited, together with their friends and families, to pack their folding chairs, blankets and picnic baskets – or savour the delicacies on offer, and to experience an open-air opera performance in the setting of a summer festival.
As part of Festspiele Zürich, "opera for all" promises to become a highlight of Zurich’s musical summer season. "opera for all" is made possible with the support of Zurich Insurance, which is also committed to promoting children’s opera at Zurich Opera House.
This annual spectacle will begin on 21 June 2014 with the young director Tatjana Gürbaca’s celebrated production of Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece, Rigoletto, one of the past season’s most successful new productions. In 2013, the specialist magazine Opernwelt voted Tatjana Gürbaca “Director of the Year”, partially for her interpretation of Rigoletto at Zurich Opera House.
