Odysseus’ Sonic Trip Home

Fall School Holiday Program for children ages 9-12

COOL-TUR

We’ll sail along with Odysseus on his journey back from Troy, as he tells the tale of his adventures. We’ll assemble music that reminds us of home, and piece together Odysseus’ journey using sound. We’ll use microphones to record sounds, and use that to create Scylla’s hiss and Charybdis’ whirlpool. We’ll imitate sloshing storms and the whistling wind, and try to sort out what the Underworld sounds like. We’ll come up with audio stories and use various sonic elements to describe what happens in the cave of the cyclops Polyphemus. We’ll even create our own reggae songs for the Lotus Eaters, accompany Calypso’s songs on the ukulele and our own homemade instruments – and then beguile audiences with the siren songs we created for a final concert.
