Zürcher Kammerorchester

The Zürcher Kammerorchester is one of the leading ensembles of its kind. Since its founding in 1945, extraordinary personalities such as Edmund de Stoutz and conductors Howard Griffiths, Muhai Tang, and Sir Roger Norrington have made significant contributions to its development. Since the 2016/17 season, Music Director Daniel Hope has led the orchestra, following the dynamic principle of "Play & Conduct," in which the soloist directs the orchestra from their instrument. The ZKO’s repertoire has been wide-ranging since its beginnings, spanning Baroque, Classical, and Romantic works as well as contemporary music. Noteworthy is also its collaboration with musicians from related genres such as jazz, folk, and pop. Family concerts, educational work with children and young people, and the promotion of young musical talent are as important to the Zürcher Kammerorchester as its ongoing collaboration with world-renowned soloists. The orchestra regularly receives invitations to international festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and Odessa Classics. Guest performances in major music centers, concert tours across European countries, the Americas, Asia, and South Africa, as well as numerous recordings praised by the professional press, today testify to the ensemble’s worldwide reputation.
