International Opera Studio IOS
The International Opera Studio at Zurich Opera House is under the patronage of the FRIENDS OF ZURICH OPERA. It prepares exceptionally talented singers and pianists for life in today’s musical theatre. The training programme features musical interpretation and acting, style, ensemble singing, vocal interpretation, voice training and diction. Other subjects include body language and role play as well as tuition in all the major operatic languages.
Students of the International Opera Studio are given small parts in Zurich Opera productions, and gain extra experience at concerts, recitals and IOS opera productions. The training concept is complemented by attendance at performances and rehearsals as well as encounters and workshops with major singers, conductors and stage directors. The singers are also introduced to the most important agents in German-speaking Europe. This training programme aims to encourage the full artistic development of these young artists. Tuition is given in German.
All students receive a grant to cover their living expenses. The age limit for women is 30, for men 31. The academic year lasts from the beginning of September to the middle of July. Conditions for admission to the studio are completed voice studies and a successful audition with the Opera Studio’s directors.
