Season Opening 15/16
This year’s season begins on the second weekend in September with our traditional opening party.
For one day, we shall open our doors and invite you get to know the Opera House from an unusual perspective. A varied programme awaits you on our stages, but also in the ballet halls, the workshops and around the building. For young audiences, the Philharmonia Zurich will be performing Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on the main stage. This year’s attractions will also include Mozart’s Schauspieldirektor, a public dress rehearsal of Verdi’s Falstaff, and performances by Zurich Ballet and the Opera House Chorus.

Enjoy the last evening of the year with the Ballett Zürich!
In a special Ballet Gala the dancers of the Ballet Zürich and the Junior Ballet present parts of their diverse repertoire and will show a profile of their most successful productions. Next to pieces that were solely prepared for this evening, the Ensemble of Ballet director Christian Spuck will show highlights of the classical and modern ballet. The Philharmonia Zürich will be directed by the famous and highly considered Ballet interpret and bulgarian director Rossen Milanov.
Opera Ball 2016

On 5 March 2O16, the Friends of Zurich Opera and Zurich Opera House invite you cordially to the 16th edition of the traditional Opera Ball. Dance into the early hours of the morning on the stage and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the richly decorated Opera House. As a dinner guest, a delicious gala dinner from the Hotel Baur au Lac awaits you before the Philharmonia Zurich the debutantes and their partners officially open the Ball. Performances by Zurich Ballet and singers will offer further cultural highlights. Either swing your legs to latin-american grooves in the Bernhard Theater or move to hot-blooded disco beats on the Studiobühne. Bars and lounges in the whole house let you cool off before the top-act performs on the main stage at midnight. All proceeds of the Ball will go towards financing children and youths and their visits at Zurich Opera House.

Opera – free open-air screening
Under the motto opera for all, Zurich Opera House is to broadcast one big-screen performance each year, transforming Sechseläutenplatz into an open-air theatre. After a successful launch with approximately 10,000 visitors in the summer of 2014, Zurich Opera House and Zurich Insurance now invite you to enjoy one opera each year free of charge: come with your friends and family, bring folding chairs, blankets and a picnic, or savour the delicacies offered on site. We also provide comfortable folding chairs on the square at the cost price of CHF 15. All are welcome to experience an opera performance in a festive summer atmosphere at the heart of the city. Opera for all is a Zurich Festival event.
Piotr Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame, directed by Robert Carsen, will be screened on Sechseläutenplatz in front of the Opera House on 18 June 2016. The role of Hermann will be performed by the American tenor Brandon Jovanovich, that of Lisa by the young Ukrainian soprano Oksana Dyka, and the Philharmonia Zurich will play under the baton of the Russian conductor Michail Jurowski.
