The Hong Kong-born conductor Elim Chan studied at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and at the University of Michigan. In 2014, she became the first woman to win the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition. During the 2016/17 season, she participated in the Dudamel Fellowship Program with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Elim Chan has conducted a wide range of prestigious international orchestras and is one of the most sought-after artists of her generation. She made her debuts at the Salzburg Festival, Orchestre de Paris, Staatskapelle Berlin, and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. From 2018 to 2023, she was a permanent guest conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and served as Chief Conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra from 2019 to 2024. After leading the First Night of the Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2024, Elim Chan will return to the Proms in 2025 to conduct the renowned Last Night of the Proms. The 2025/26 season will take her to the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Luxembourg Philharmonic, with debuts with the Munich Philharmonic, Zurich Opera Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony, and Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She has also performed with orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
