Abstract
In the fourth chamber concert, members of the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House present two early works from contrasting musical worlds: Johan Svendsen’s Octet in A major, which follows the example of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and the "Two Pieces for String Octet" by 18-year-old Dmitri Shostakovich – a dark, elegiac prelude and an energetic, abrasive scherzo.
