Hans van Manen, geboren 1932 in den Niederlanden, gehört zu den bedeutendsten zeitgenössischen Choreografen. Seine Karriere begann 1951 als Mitglied der Sonia Gaskell Compagnie. Nach ersten Engagements beim Nederlands Opera Ballet, wo seine erste Choreografie entstand (Feestgericht, 1957), und bei der Roland Petit Compagnie in Paris schloss er sich 1960 dem Nederlands Dans Theater an, zunächst als Tänzer (bis 1963), dann als Choreograf und schliesslich als Künstlerischer Leiter (1961-71). 1973 wechselte er zum Nationalen Ballett Amsterdam. 1988-2003 kehrte Hans van Manen als Hauschoreograf zum Nederlands Dans Theater zurück, 2003 übernahm er die gleiche Funktion beim Königlichen Dänischen Ballett. Hans van Manens Werk umfasst 150 Ballette, von denen jedes einzelne seine unverwechselbare Handschrift trägt: strukturelle Klarheit und raffinierte Einfachheit sind die zentralen Elemente seiner Choreografien, was ihm den Beinamen «Mondrian des Tanzes» eingetragen hat. Ausserhalb der Niederlande haben Compagnien wie das Ballett Zürich, das Stuttgarter Ballett, das Bayerische Staatsballett München, das Staatsballett Berlin, das Houston Ballet, das National Ballet of Canada, das Pennsylvania Ballet, das English Royal Ballet, das Royal Danish Ballet, das Staatsopernballett Wien, das Tanzforum Köln, die Compaña Nacional de Danza und die Alvin Ailey Dance Company seine Choreografien getanzt. Hans van Manen wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen geehrt. 1991 erhielt er den Sonia Gaskell Preis für sein Gesamtwerk und den Preis für Choreografie des Dänischen Theaters, seit 1992 ist er Offizier des Ritterordens von Oranien-Nassau. 1992 erhielt er den Deutschen Tanzpreis, 1996 ehrte ihn die holländische C.O.C. mit der Bob Angelo Medaille. 1997 erhielt Hans van Manen den Gino Tani International Prize in der Kategorie Tanz. 1998 veranstaltete das Edinburgh International Festival Scotland eine Retrospektive der Werke van Manens; sein Gesamtwerk wurde mit dem Archangel, dem Kritikerpreis des Edinburgh Festivals, ausgezeichnet. 2000 kam zu seinen zahlreichen Auszeichnungen der Erasmus-Preis für seine Verdienste um den niederländischen Tanz dazu, 2004 der Musikpreis der Stadt Duisburg, 2005 der Prix Benois de la Danse für sein Lebenswerk. Neben seinem choreografischen Schaffen erlangte er hohes Renommee als Fotograf.

Keso Dekker
Keso Dekker, auf der holländischen Insel Ysselmonde geboren, studierte Kunstgeschichte, Niederländische sowie Klassische Sprachen und Literatur, bevor er sich der Malerei zuwandte. Nachdem der Choreograf Eric Hampton ihn 1976 erstmals als Bühnen- und Kostümbildner engagierte, begann die intensive Zusammenarbeit mit Hans van Manen, die seither zu mehr als 60 gemeinsamen Kreationen führte. Über 400 Bühnen- und Kostümarbeiten entstanden für zahlreiche Theater- und Tanzmacher in Europa und den USA, darunter Choreografen wie Renato Zanella, Bernd Bienert, Nils Christe und Heinz Spoerli (Ein Sommernachtstraum, Goldberg-Variationen). Er kreierte TV-Programme, leitete Workshops, schrieb Bücher, gestaltete Innen- und Aussenräume sowie Ausstellungen wie 1986 La Mode und 1994 The Art of Devotion 1300–1500 im Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. 2002 erhielt er den niederländischen Preis für Formgebung sowie den Grossen Preis der holländischen Tanzwelt. Mit Martin Schläpfer arbeitete Keso Dekker bei den Uraufführungen Musica ricercata, Tanzsuite und Pathétique für ballettmainz, Streichquartett und Lontano für Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam und Forellenquintett für das Ballett am Rhein zusammen. 2013 folgte die gemeinsame Uraufführung Johannes Brahms – Symphonie Nr. 2. Für die Feiern zum 50-jährigen Jubiläum von Het Nationale Ballet entwarf er einen Ballettmarathon mit neun Uraufführungen von u.a. Hans van Manen, Christopher Wheeldon und Alexei Ratmansky. Beim American Ballet Theater kam 2012 Symphony No 9 von Ratmansky in Dekkers Design heraus, gefolgt von der Neugestaltung von Massines Choreartium beim Bayerischen Staatsballett. Darüber hinaus arbeitete Keso Dekker 2016 an der Design-Konzeption für die Ausstellung 500 Jahre Hieronymus Bosch in den Niederlanden mit.
Bert Dalhuysen
The lighting designer Bert Dalhuysen studied at the Academy for Photography and Photographic Technology in The Hague and initially worked as a freelance photographer and lighting designer. In 1982, he became Managing Director of Arinde Visual Design Studios in Amsterdam. In 1986, he joined the lighting team of the Dutch National Opera and Ballet, where he was appointed Deputy Head in 2001. Until 2020, he worked as a lighting technician and lighting designer for Dutch National Ballet as well as for other Dutch and international companies. Dalhuysen currently works as a freelance lighting and multimedia designer for ballet, opera, and theatre. He maintains a close collaboration with choreographer David Dawson and designer Eno Henze.

Ayaha Tsunaki
Ayaha Tsunaki is from Japan. She studied at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, the Hamburg Ballet School, and the Kyouko Kanda Ballet Academy in Japan. From 2014 to 2025, she danced with the Semperoper Ballet in Dresden, serving as demi-soloist since 2021. Here, she performed as Julia in David Dawson’s «Romeo and Juliet», Odette in Johan Inger’s «Swan Lake», the title role in Inger’s «Carmen», the Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in Aaron S. Watkin/Jason Beechey’s «The Nutcracker», and Gamzatti in Watkin’s «La Bayadère».
She has also appeared in choreographies by William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Stijn Celis, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, George Balanchine, Nacho Duato, John Neumeier, and Justin Peck.
Since the 2025/26 season, Ayaha Tsunaki has been principal dancer at Ballett Zürich.
Sujung Lim
Sujung Lim is from South Korea. She trained at Yewon Arts High School and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. She won gold medals at the Tanzolymp Berlin in 2008 and 2011. From 2011 to 2018, she danced as a soloist with Ballett Karlsruhe, performing in Kenneth MacMillan’s «Romeo and Juliet», John Cranko’s «The Taming of the Shrew», Peter Wright’s «Giselle», and Christopher Wheeldon’s «Swan Lake». Since the 2018/19 season, she has been a member of Ballett Zürich, appearing in many choreographies by Cathy Marston, Christian Spuck, Wayne McGregor, Patrice Bart, William Forsythe, Johan Inger, Jiří Kylián, Marcos Morau, and Crystal Pite. In 2025, she was awarded the «Dance Prize of the Friends of Ballett Zürich».
Max Richter
Max Richter is from the USA and trained at the International City School of Ballet and Houston Ballet II. Important choreographies during her engagement at Houston Ballet included Cathy Marston’s «Summer and Smoke», Ben Stevenson’s «Sleeping Beauty», and Balanchine’s «Diamonds». Since the 2023/24 season, Max Richter has been a member of Ballett Zürich. Here, she danced leading roles in Cathy Marston’s ballets «Atonement» and «Clara». She also appeared in the title role of Patrice Bart’s «Giselle», as the Bride in Bronislava Nijinska’s «Les Noces», and in choreographies by Wayne McGregor, Jerome Robbins, Marcos Morau, Meryl Tankard, Christian Spuck, Marco Goecke, William Forsythe, Kim Brandstrup, and Kenneth MacMillan.
Karen Azatyan
Karen Azatyan is originally from Armenia. Trained at the Yerevan Dancing Art State College and the Dance Academy Zurich, he won the Prix de Lausanne in 2005. From 2007 to 2014, he was a member of the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich (promoted to soloist in 2012). In 2014, he joined the Hamburg Ballet as a principal dancer, where he maintained a close collaboration with John Neumeier until the latter’s departure in 2024. He danced leading roles and solos in many of Neumeier’s ballets, including: «Illusions» – like «Swan Lake», «The Nutcracker», «A Midsummer Night’s Dream», «A Streetcar Named Desire», «Death in Venice», «Peer Gynt», «Romeo and Juliet», «Nijinsky», «Liliom», «The Seagull», «Winterreise», «St. Matthew Passion», «The Song of the Earth» and Mahler’s «Third Symphony».
His repertoire also includes works by Frederick Ashton, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Marius Petipa, Jerome Robbins, and Christopher Wheeldon.
Since the 2024/25 season, Karen Azatyan has been a principal dancer with Ballett Zürich. Here, he has appeared as Robert Schumann in Cathy Marston’s «Clara», Hilarion in Patrice Bart’s «Giselle», and as the Shadow in Kim Brandstrup’s «Of Light, Wind and Waters».
Joel Woellner
Joel Woellner is Australian. He completed his training at the Ben Stevenson Academy of Houston Ballet and with Houston Ballet II. In 2013, he was a two-time prize winner at the Prix de Lausanne. After performing with Houston Ballet, he was a Principal Artist with Queensland Ballet from 2015 to 2024.
Joel Woellner danced Des Grieux in «Manon» by Kenneth MacMillan, Valmont in «Dangerous Liaisons» by Liam Scarlett, Oberon in Scarlett’s «A Midsummer Night’s Dream», Prince Ivan in Scarlett’s «The Firebird», and Prince Siegfried in «Swan Lake» by Ben Stevenson, as well as in choreographies by Greg Horsman, Christopher Bruce, and Jiří Kylián.
Since the 2024/25 season, he has been a member of Ballett Zürich. Here, he has appeared as Johannes Brahms in Cathy Marston’s «Clara», as Albrecht in Patrice Bart’s «Giselle», and in choreographies by Wayne McGregor, Kenneth MacMillan, Crystal Pite, Bryan Arias, and Kim Brandstrup.
Erik Kim
Erik Kim is from the USA. He completed his dance training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After his first engagement at Ballet Nacional Sodre in Uruguay, he danced with the Atlanta Ballet from 2021 to 2024. Among others, he performed the title role in Yuri Possokhov’s «The Nutcracker» and appeared in choreographies by August Bournonville, Ben Stevenson, Cathy Marston, Kenneth MacMillan, and Juliano Nunes. Since the 2024/25 season, he has been a member of the Ballett Zürich. Here, he appeared as Benjamin Braddock in Cathy Marston’s «Mrs. Robinson», in Patrice Bart’s «Giselle» (Peasants’ Pas de Deux), and in Crystal Pite’s «Emergence».
Karim Fawaz
Karim Fawaz, a Swiss filmmaker of Lebanese descent, studied film in Zurich. Together with Saro Tschan, he runs the film studio We Frame GmbH. There, he works as Creative Director and Producer and is responsible for concept development, directing, and the overall visual appearance of food and product films. In addition to classic tabletop productions, he also creates event formats and interactive installations. At the Zurich Opera House, he worked as a cameraman on the productions "L'incoronazione di Poppea" and "Die Fledermaus". Alongside his practical work, Karim Fawaz is also active as a lecturer and teaches film, photography, and media practice at the SAE Institute Zurich.
Kateryna Tereshchenko
Kateryna Tereshchenko wurde in der Ukraine geboren. Sie studierte bei B. Fedorov an der Kiewer Lysenko-Musikschule und von 2007 bis 2009 bei Konstantin Scherbakov an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ZHdK (Master Specialized Musik Performance – Solistin). Von 2011 bis 2013 war sie Masterstudentin bei Ulrich Koella (Master Specialized Musik Performance – Kammermusik und Lied). 2011 und 2012 wurde sie mit dem Studienpreis des Migros-Kulturprozent-Wettbewerbs in Zürich ausgezeichnet. Von 2013 bis 2016 war sie Mitglied der Orchester-Akademie am Opernhaus Zürich. Zahlreiche Konzerte als Solistin (Klavierabende und Konzerte mit Orchester), als Kammermusikerin in verschiedenen Formationen sowie als Liedbegleiterin führten Kateryna Tereshchenko in die Ukraine, nach Deutschland, Polen, Tschechien, Italien, Österreich, Argentinien und in die Schweiz. Seit 2019 ist sie als Korrepetitorin (Bereich PreCollege Musik) an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste angestellt. Daneben spielt sie an diversen Festivals und im Opernhaus Zürich als Solistin (The Cellist, Walkways) und in Brunchkonzerten.
