Metamorphoses
14 New Performances by Students of the ZHdK
As part of the new opera house festival “Zürich Barock”, students of composition, music, theatre, and transdisciplinarity at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) present a total of 14 new performances, inspired by Ovid’s famous collection of ancient myths: the “Metamorphoses”. Ovid’s tales of transformation - of humans, gods, and creatures who change their form out of love, desire, fear, or punishment - have been among the most fertile sources of artistic inspiration for two thousand years. To this day, these stories touch on central questions of modern identity: Who are we? How do we change? What compels us to transform?
These questions are explored in a freely accessible performance parcours through the exhibition spaces of the Kunsthaus Zurich. New works and artistic positions emerge between early music, electronics, dance, video, and theatre - a polyphonic labyrinth of sound and movement in which sounds, bodies, images, and spaces are in constant transformation. Visitors move freely through this landscape of metamorphoses - and themselves become part of an open artistic process between past and present.
