Gianandrea Noseda

Gianandrea Noseda has been General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House since the 2021/22 season. In addition, he is Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, he became Music Director of the newly founded Tsinandali Festival and the Georgian Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra. From 2007 to 2018, Noseda served as General Music Director of the Teatro Regio di Torino, where he artistically reshaped the opera house during his tenure. Noseda has conducted the world’s leading orchestras (Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic) as well as at the most prestigious opera houses (La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House) and festivals (BBC Proms, Edinburgh, Salzburg, and Verbier). He has also held leading positions with the BBC Philharmonic (Chief Conductor), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (Principal Guest Conductor), the Mariinsky Theatre (Principal Guest Conductor), and the Stresa Festival (Artistic Director). His discography comprises more than 80 CDs, with a special focus on the "Musica Italiana" project, which features neglected 20th-century Italian repertoire. Born in Milan, Noseda is a Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana and received the Order of Merit of the City of Milan in 2024. In 2015, he was named "Musical America’s Conductor of the Year," was awarded "Conductor of the Year" at the 2016 International Opera Awards, and received the Puccini Prize in 2023. In the same year, the Oper! Awards honored Noseda as "Best Conductor," particularly recognizing his interpretations of the first two "Ring" operas at the Zurich Opera House.

Juan Diego Flórez

Juan Diego Flórez is one of the leading tenors of the present day. Born in 1973 in Lima, he devoted himself early to singing as well as Peruvian folk and pop music. At the age of 17, he began his studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Peru and three years later received a scholarship for vocal studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 1996, he made his debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro as Corradino in "Matilde di Shabran", followed by his debut at Teatro alla Scala as Le Chevalier Danois in Gluck’s "Armide". Since then, he has been a regular guest at international opera houses such as Teatro Real Madrid, Opéra Garnier, the Royal Opera House, the Vienna State Opera, Sydney Opera House, LA Opera, and the Zurich Opera House. He has released numerous solo albums and opera recordings on CD and DVD, including "Rossini Arias", which was awarded an ECHO Klassik. Among his many honors are the "Gran Cruz de la Orden del Sol", the highest award of the Peruvian state, the title of Austrian Kammersänger, and the Opus Klassik as Singer of the Year 2018. He is also the founder of the project "Sinfonía por el Perú". In recognition of his social engagement, he was appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2012 and received the Crystal Award of the World Economic Forum in 2014.

Philharmonia Zürich

1985 entstand in Folge der Trennung des traditionsreichen Tonhalle- und Theaterorchesters das Orchester der Oper Zürich. 2012, mit Beginn der Intendanz von Andreas Homoki und dem Amtsantritt des neuen Generalmusikdirektors Fabio Luisi, wird das Orchester der Oper Zürich zur Philharmonia Zürich. Pro Saison ist das Orchester in rund 250 Opern- und Ballettvorstellungen des Opernhauses Zürich zu hören. Als Podium für das Konzertrepertoire werden zusätzlich die Philharmonischen Konzerte veranstaltet. Soiréen und Kammermusikmatinéen ergänzen das künstlerische Spektrum des Orchesters. Bevor Fabio Luisi mit der Saison 2012/13 als Generalmusikdirektor die künstlerische Leitung des Orchesters übernommen hat, haben u. a. Franz Welser-Möst (1995-2008, ab 2005 als Generalmusikdirektor) und zuletzt Daniele Gatti als Chefdirigent (2009-2012) das Orchester geleitet. 2000/01 fanden die Beständigkeit der Leistungen des Orchesters der Oper Zürich und die Breite seines Könnens mit der Wahl zum «Orchester des Jahres» in der Umfrage der Zeitschrift «Opernwelt» weit verbreitete internationale Anerkennung.

Abstract

Where do you celebrate the beginning of the new year? Our General Music Director Gianandrea Noseda is ringing in his first New Year in Zurich on the stage of the Opernhaus and cordially invites you to join him! Together with star tenor Juan Diego Flórez and the Philharmonia Zurich, he will ensure a glorious musical start to 2022 and a champagne mood on January 1 and 2. The world-renowned Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, who was last seen here as Rodolfo (La bohème) and Werther, will sing not only famous opera arias in this concert, but also snappy operetta classics by Franz Lehár. The orchestra sets dance and festive accents with works by Brahms, Dvořák, Tchaikovsky and Johann Strauss.
