Abstract
Johann Sebastian Bach stands at the centre of an extensive family of musicians that produced numerous town musicians and composers. Bach’s sons are widely known and, with their innovative musical styles, attracted even greater attention during their lifetimes than their father. But gifted composers can also be found among Bach’s ancestors and more distant relatives. The first La Scintilla Concert of the season is devoted entirely to this remarkable German family, spanning a period from Heinrich Bach, born in 1615, to Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, who died in 1784. The concert is conducted by violinist and conductor Shunske Sato, who has worked closely with Concerto Köln, among others.
