The Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski studied piano and conducting at the Sibelius Academy and was taught by Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2022, he became the first Principal Guest Conductor in the history of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. He also holds the same position with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and serves as Music and Artistic Director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Since 2025, he has been Chief Conductor of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and from the 2026/27 season additionally of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2025, he began a three-year residency as exclusive artist at the Konzerthaus Dortmund. He has conducted ensembles such as the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra at the Baden-Baden Whitsun Festival, the Bavarian State Orchestra and the Filarmonica della Scala. In 2024, he made his debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms. At the age of 22, he conducted his first "Ring" cycle at the Eurajoki Bel Canto Festival. Most recently, he conducted "Tristan und Isolde" at the Dutch National Opera and "Parsifal" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2022, he received the Lotto Prize at the Rheingau Music Festival and in 2023 the OPUS Klassik together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Since 2023, he has been an exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon. In 2026, the recording "The Ring: An Orchestral Adventure" with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra was released there.

Alina Pogostkina

Alina Pogostkina wurde in St. Petersburg geboren, wuchs in Deutschland auf und absolvierte ihr Studium in Geige an der Hochschule für Musik «Hanns Eisler» in Berlin sowie in Barockgeige am Mozarteum Salzburg. 2005 gewann sie den Internationalen Sibelius Wettbewerb in Helsinki. Seither ist sie u.a. zu Gast bei den Salzburger Festspielen, dem Grafenegg Festival, dem Istanbul Music Festival und dem Rheingau Musik Festival. Langjährige künstlerische Partnerschaften verbinden sie u.a. mit dem Finnish Radio Symphony, dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, dem NHK und dem Yomiuri Nippon Symphony sowie mit dem Deutschen Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, dem Mahler Chamber Orchestra, der Los Angeles Philharmonic, der San Francisco Symphony, dem Orchestre National de France und mit den St. Petersburger Philharmonikern. Dabei arbeitete sie mit Dirigent:innen wie Sakari Oramo, Lionel Bringuier, Gustavo Dudamel, Jonathan Nott, Paavo Järvi, Michael Sanderling, Kristiina Poska, Juraj Valčuha, David Afkham, Robin Ticciati und John Storgårds. Jüngste Höhepunkte waren ihre Debüts mit dem Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, dem Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin und dem Budapest Festival Orchestra. Zu ihren Kammermusikpartner:innen gehören Pekka Kuusisto, Joshua Bell, Jörg Widmann sowie Danjulo Ishizaka und Nimrod Guez, mit denen sie ein Streichtrio gründete. 2018 entwickelte sie «Mindful Music Making», ein Programm mit Schwerpunkt auf Achtsamkeit und Entwicklung individueller Kreativität. Alina Pogostkina spielt auf einer «Camillo Camilli» von 1752. Seit September 2023 ist sie Professorin für Geige an der Hochschule für Musik Basel.

Philharmonia Zürich

1985 entstand in Folge der Trennung des traditionsreichen Tonhalle- und Theaterorchesters das Orchester der Oper Zürich. 2012, mit Beginn der Intendanz von Andreas Homoki und dem Amtsantritt des neuen Generalmusikdirektors Fabio Luisi, wird das Orchester der Oper Zürich zur Philharmonia Zürich. Pro Saison ist das Orchester in rund 250 Opern- und Ballettvorstellungen des Opernhauses Zürich zu hören. Als Podium für das Konzertrepertoire werden zusätzlich die Philharmonischen Konzerte veranstaltet. Soiréen und Kammermusikmatinéen ergänzen das künstlerische Spektrum des Orchesters. Bevor Fabio Luisi mit der Saison 2012/13 als Generalmusikdirektor die künstlerische Leitung des Orchesters übernommen hat, haben u. a. Franz Welser-Möst (1995-2008, ab 2005 als Generalmusikdirektor) und zuletzt Daniele Gatti als Chefdirigent (2009-2012) das Orchester geleitet. 2000/01 fanden die Beständigkeit der Leistungen des Orchesters der Oper Zürich und die Breite seines Könnens mit der Wahl zum «Orchester des Jahres» in der Umfrage der Zeitschrift «Opernwelt» weit verbreitete internationale Anerkennung.

Abstract

The 2nd Philharmonic Concert features an exceptional artist of the younger generation on the podium of our orchestra: conductor Tarmo Peltokoski is from Finland and, at the age of 24, already a guest on the world's great concert stages. As artistic director of the Latvian National Orchestra, he is conducting Wagner's Götterdämmerung in Riga this season, he is currently making his debut on the concert platform at the BBC Proms in London and at La Scala in Milan, and his first recordings have been released by Deutsche Grammophon. The promising young Finn can now be heard at Opernhaus Zürich conducting Sibelius' Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. Instead of Daniel Lozakovich, who was originally planned as the soloist for this concert, we have been able to secure the violinist Anna Pogostkina as the soloist, who has won the International Sibelius Competition in Helsinki, among others.
