Sixteen-Hour Piano Performance
Erik Satie’s "Vexations" ("Torments") from 1893 is one of the great curiosities of music history. For a three-line musical sequence consisting of a theme and variations, Satie prescribes a total of 840 repetitions. What begins as an ordeal develops over the course of many hours into a unique artistic experience of particular depth. A group of pianists will perform this work in its entirety at the Zurich Opera House for the first time.
