In his 1969 composition for six percussionists, "Persephassa", Iannis Xenakis explores the relationship between space, time and ritual. The title refers to Persephone, the goddess between the upper and underworlds. The percussion section of the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House performs the work, which makes the spatial dimension of sound tangible.
