Programs

“Hansel and Gretel”

Family opera (8+)

Opera as a dream machine: Thom Luz stages Engelbert Humperdinck's famous fairytale opera with grand images and stage magic.

Musical Stories

(4+ / 8+)

The youngest opera guests are invited to follow along on the “sound carpet” as actors and musicians bring stories from children’s books and operas to life – and are encouraged to take part in the onstage action.

“Klanghotel der Gefühle”

In the “Klanghotel der Gefühle”, illustrious guests come and go. All are merely passing through, yet each has their own special needs and demands full attention. Emotional outbursts are bound to happen – but the porter makes sure everyone finds their place in the hall of mirrors, and, in the end, harmony is restored.

ImprOpera

In this interactive story workshop, three dice determine which characters, places, and props take center stage in the piece developed together. A unique music theater experience born from the creativity of the moment.

”Circés Zauberinsel”

Family Concert (8+)

In this family concert, the sorceress Circe tells of her magical powers. Accompanied by musicians from the “Orchestra La Scintilla,” she presents arias from Jean-Marie Leclair’s opera “Scylla et Glaucus.”

Children’s Opera Orchestra

For Schools and Families (8+)

The newly founded Children’s Opera Orchestra, under the musical direction of Gianandrea Noseda and Ann-Katrin Stöcker, performs excerpts from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” and Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”, together with soloists and the Zurich Opera Children’s Choir.

Opernhaus für alle

For the first time, the Zurich Opera House invites everyone to an entire “opera for all” weekend! For three days, Sechseläutenplatz will transform into a grand open-air stage featuring live broadcasts and a festive open-air concert conducted by Gianandrea Noseda – all with free admission. The program also includes a colorful pre-show and the debut performance of the new Children’s Opera Orchestra.
