All productions of the 2025/26 season at a glance
The first premiere of the season, «Oiseaux Rebelles», presents Mats Ek, one of the most significant choreographers of our time, with his rarely performed masterpiece «Carmen», alongside a choreographic interpretation of Mussorgsky's «Pictures at an Exhibition», by Australian Dani Rowe, who will make her European debut.
In the four-part ballet evening «Timeframed», two works by choreographic masters frame two new creations by choreographers from the younger generation. William Forsythe’s «New Suite» and Hans van Manen’s «Live» have made dance history. They are joined by world premieres from Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis and newcomer Lucas Valente, a dancer with the Zurich Ballet, who will create his first work for the main company.
Sergei Prokofiev's composition «Romeo and Juliet» created a musical counterpart equal to the most famous love story in world literature by Shakespeare. The piece is perfectly suited for a reinterpretation by ballet director Cathy Marston, whose choreographic focus is on narrative ballet storytelling. For the first time, she will be joined by General Music Director Gianandrea Noseda at the podium of the Zurich Opera Orchestra.
The long-standing tradition of the Zurich Ballet, supporting dancers in developing their own choreographic voices, continues with a new edition of «Next Generation».
