Lucas & Arthur Jussen are among the most sought-after piano duos of our time. As children, the brothers performed before Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, and their first competition awards soon followed. In 2005, they met pianist Maria João Pires, who mentored them for many years. Lucas later studied with Menahem Pressler in the USA and Dmitri Bashkirov in Madrid, while Arthur completed his studies with Jan Wijn in Amsterdam. The pianists have been signed to the Deutsche Grammophon label since 2010. Their debut recording of works by Beethoven went platinum and won the Edison Klassiek audience award. Their recording of Mozart's Double Concertos K. 242 and 365 with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner achieved gold status in 2015. Most recently, a CD trilogy was released in autumn 2025, including a recording of the "Peer Gynt" Suites. Lucas & Arthur Jussen have performed with leading orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and have worked with renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Iván Fischer, Andris Nelsons and Jaap van Zweden. In the 2025/26 season, the pianists will be Artists in Residence with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Other special highlights include their debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in February 2026 and invitations to perform with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, and in South Korea and Taiwan. In April 2026, they will premiere Andrew Norman's double concerto, composed especially for them, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Susanna Mälkki.

Abstract

Along with Mozart and Mendelssohn, Francis Poulenc is also considered one of the composers who created significant concertos for two pianos. In the slow movement of his work, Poulenc explicitly refers to Mozart; he himself described it as a "poetic play with the portrait of Mozart". The soloists are the brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen, who belong to the most successful piano duos of our time. Following that, Hector Berlioz's famous "Symphonie fantastique" will be performed, a milestone that paved the way for program music.
