Elizabeth DeShong, mezzo-soprano, is originally from the United States. A regular guest on all major stages around the world, she has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Canadian Opera Company, English National Opera, Vienna State Opera, Opéra National de Bordeaux, and the Bavarian State Opera. Her repertoire includes roles such as Angelina (La Cenerentola), Calbo (Maometto II), Arsace (Semiramide), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Maffio Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia), Fenena (Nabucco), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), as well as the Groom, the Schoolboy, and the Page (Lulu). DeShong also regularly appears in concert, performing with orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Flemish Orchestra. Most recently, she sang Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Verdi’s Requiem with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Handel’s Messiah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis has been released on CD (Chandos). In 2010, she was named “Artist of the Year” by Washington National Opera for her portrayal of the Composer in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. In the 2016/17 season, she appeared as Adalgisa (Norma) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, as Suzuki at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Bavarian State Opera, and as Hermia at the Glyndebourne Festival.
