Abstract
The moderately talented director Frank is not really a theatre manager. But he would like to be, and now he at last has the opportunity to put together his own troupe of actors and singers. To do so, he holds auditions. On a small, draughty rehearsal stage, Frank and his muse, the actress Eiler, are waiting for the candidates, but only a few singers and actors have – and unfortunately only few of them are promising. The stubborn actress Pfeil refuses to take no for an answer and, unnoticed, continues to audition in constantly changing disguises and roles; the initially reserved tenor Vogelsang suddenly becomes love-crazed; and a relentless war of the divas rages between the two sopranos Herz and Silberklang. The taciturn performance artist Krone and the self-styled universal actor Buff ultimately cause everything to get completely out of hand. Frank and Eiler are almost in despair: how should this chaotic, quarrelling bunch ever stage a play? Frank and Eiler’s dream of having their own ensemble seems seriously in jeopardy… This season, our successful coproduction with the Theater Kanton Zürich can again be seen at various locations in Switzerland as well as the Opera House.
