Gala Concert of the International Opera Studio6 Jul 2026 Concert with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra21 Mar 2026

Abstract

The International Opera Studio is celebrating this year: the Zurich talent factory has now been in existence for 60 years, and some of the greatest singers of our time have emerged from it. Reason enough to celebrate this anniversary in a fitting manner! The current crop of young singers can now be heard in a gala concert at the Opernhaus Zürich. Although the young singers have had a difficult year because of Corona, they were recently able to shine in Donizetti's Viva la mamma at the Winterthur Theatre, in song recitals such as Opera goes wild or in important smaller roles in the new production of Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, which we streamed live. Together with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and under the musical direction of Adrian Kelly, who has also been director of the IOS since this season, they perform famous arias, duets and ensembles from operas by Mozart, Donizetti, Rossini and Richard Strauss. French music with an excerpt from Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, an aria from the unknown opera Sapho by Charles Gounod or the Smugglers' Quintet from Bizet's Carmen will also be special musical treats.
