Abstract
For the young generation of dancers in the Ballett Zürich, it’s a special thrill to not only appear in each season’s repertoire, but to also be a part of the creation of new works. For their latest evening, the young dancers of the Junior Ballett have developed new choreographies with Shaked Heller, Samantha Lynch, and Vittoria Girelli.
Shaked Heller is from Israel and danced with the Stuttgarter Ballett, for whom he developed multiple works. In his piece WOLC – short for «Land of Chopped Wings» – winged beings populate a mountain-like structure. Accompanied by the music of German sound pioneer Oskar Sala, Shaked Heller explores self-discovery as a dancer and the concept of belonging to a group.
Samantha Lynch hails from Australia and is a principal dancer with the Norwegian National Ballet. In her piece COME BACK, five dancers from very different backgrounds meet almost by chance. A movable box made of wood forms the space they explore together, and in which they support each other. In these new surroundings, they dance to Luke Howard and vocal artist Bobby McFerrin, connecting to one another via the happiness of dancing to music.
Hailing from Italy, Vittoria Girelli also dances in Stuttgart and has successfully choreographed there. In her piece FORMORIA, she examines the oeuvre of the Italian material artist Alberto Burri. Like Burri, whose works of art consist of several layers, Vittoria Girelli uses the bodies of the dancers as malleable material that knows no finality. A captivating ensemble piece emerges, set to the evocative music of Davidson Jaconello.
