Abstract
He is celebrated at major international opera houses and festivals as Scarpia or Escamillo - at Zurich Opera House he recently sang Donizetti's Dulcamaro - and now the Uruguayan bass-baritone Erwin Schrott can be heard in a recital in Zurich. Together with his pianist Giulio Zappa, the charismatic singer will perform arias from operas by Giuseppe Verdi (Les vêpres siciliennes), Arrigo Boito (Mefistofele) and Charles Gounod (Philémon et Baucis, Faust). Special attention is also paid to songs by the Argentinian composer Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000), whose romantic musical language had a significant influence on Argentinian folk and popular music in the 1960s.
