Die südafrikanische Sopranistin Pretty Yende erregte internationale Aufmerksamkeit als sie 2010 als erste Künstlerin in der Geschichte des Hans-Gabor-Belvedere-Gesangswettbewerbs erste Preise in allen Kategorien gewann. Unterdessen gastiert sie regelmässig an den grossen Opernhäusern weltweit, darunter die Metropolitan Opera in New York, die Mailänder Scala, das Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London und die Deutsche Oper Berlin. Ihr Gesangsstudium absolvierte sie an der University of Cape Town Opera School bei Virginia Davids und Angelo Gobbato sowie an der Accademia Teatro alla Scala. Erstmals auf der Bühne der Scala stand Pretty Yende 2010 als Berenice in Rossinis L’occasione fa il ladro und kehrte später zurück als Norina (Don Pasquale), Musetta (La bohème) und als Comtesse Adèle (Le Comte Ory). Im Januar 2013 gab sie ihr vielbeachtetes Debüt an der Metropolitan Opera in New York als Comtesse Adèle an der Seite von Juan Diego Flórez und war seit da als Pamina, Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Elvira (I puritani), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Leïla (Les Pêcheurs de perles) und Marie (La fille du régiment) an der Met zu erleben. In jüngster Zeit war sie u.a. als Adina (L’elisir d’amore) am Royal Opera House in London und an der Bayerischen Staatsoper, als Pamina am Grand-Théâtre de Genève, als Lucia an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, als Teresa (Benvenuto Cellini), Lucia, Rosina und Violetta an der Opéra Bastille in Paris und als Elvira am Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona zu hören. In Zürich sang sie 2016 Elvira in I puritani und 2019 Amina in der konzertanten Aufführung von La sonnambula.
When Pretty Yende sang Elvira in Bellinis I puritani a year and a half ago, she tore the Zurich audience to acclamations, and the Tages-Anzeiger also enthused: "Yende is indeed the ideal Elvira, with her voice and charisma, her condition and creative cleverness. After a good three hours, her top notes sound as effortless and fresh as they were in the beginning, she always finds the balance between clarity and mystery in her melodies and coloratura." Now the young South African returns with a song recital to Zurich and has more Belcanto in her luggage: Together with the pianist Michele D'Elia she interprets the songs and arias of Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti. With other songs by Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt et al. the singer is also to be discovered from a completely different side.

Michele d'Elia
The Italian pianist Michele D’Elia made his public debut on the cello and piano at the age of six. He studied piano at the Conservatorio Tito Schipa in Lecce and vocal chamber music at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. Further studies took him to the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto and to the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, where he still teaches today. He has also held teaching positions at the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and at the Lunenburg Academy of Arts and Performance in Canada. He has led masterclasses at the Académie des Heures Romantiques (France), as well as at Villa Medici Giulini, the Accademia Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Accademia Verdiana in Parma, and the Bottega Donizettiana in Bergamo. He has also accompanied masterclasses by Renato Bruson, Mirella Freni, Eva Mei, Gregory Kunde, and Barbara Frittoli. As a pianist, he performs regularly at renowned venues such as Teatro alla Scala, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Zurich Opera House, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Bilbao Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Barbican Centre in London, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Frankfurt Opera, the Verbier Festival, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Yamaha Hall Ginza, and Kioi Hall in Tokyo, as well as on stages in Buenos Aires and Los Angeles. Michele D’Elia collaborates regularly with artists such as Juan Diego Flórez, Maria Agresta, Carmela Remigio, Eleonora Buratto, Jessica Pratt, Veronica Simeoni, Mattia Olivieri, Francesco Meli, Pretty Yende, Elisa Balbo, and Vasilisa Berzhanskaja. His recordings include the albums "Voix d’Espoir" with Veronica Simeoni and "Lunaria" with Elisa Balbo.
