Christophe Dumaux is one of the leading countertenors of his generation. His international breakthrough came in 2001 as Eustazio ("Rinaldo") under René Jacobs in Montpellier. Since then, he has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Opéra de Paris, the Vienna State Opera, the Theater an der Wien, the Salzburg Festival, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, La Scala in Milan, and the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. He is one of the most sought-after interpreters of Handel. His signature roles include the title role in "Orlando", Polinesso ("Ariodante"), Tolomeo, the title role in "Giulio Cesare", and Nerone ("Agrippina"). His repertoire also includes Cavalli’s Eliogabalo and Giasone as well as Endimione in "La Calisto", Ottone in Monteverdi’s "L’incoronazione di Poppea", Farnace in Mozart’s "Mitridate", and Orfeo in Gluck’s "Orfeo ed Euridice". At the Zurich Opera House, he has appeared, among others, in Christoph Marthaler’s Handel pasticcio "Sale", as Melindo in Vivaldi’s "La verità in cimento", and most recently as Arsamene ("Serse") and Nerone ("Agrippina"). He regularly works with conductors such as William Christie, Emmanuelle Haïm, Gianluca Capuano, Giovanni Antonini, Andrea Marcon, Ivor Bolton, Philippe Jaroussky, Ottavio Dantone, Francesco Corti, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as with directors such as Claus Guth, David McVicar, Robert Carsen, Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, David Alden, Christof Loy, Barbora Horáková, and Richard Jones. He can be seen as Tolomeo in DVD recordings from Glyndebourne, Theater an der Wien, and the Salzburg Festival. A solo album with Handel arias was released in 2020.
