Abstract
A historic moment, an outstanding cast, a gorgeous city and music ranging from Viennese operetta to Dutch and French chansons to songs from the Great American Songbook - that is Springtime in Amsterdam, the first music film by opera director Christof Loy.
It tells the story of four cosmopolitans at the crossroads of their lives who meet by chance in Amsterdam. Each of them has different expectations and within 48 hours a confusion arises that must be resolved. The city becomes their magical dream world, seemingly offering opportunities and answers to a key moment in their lives.
When Christof Loy, director of La rondine, was stranded in Amsterdam during the first corona-related lockdown, the spontaneous idea to make a film was born. The cast included Annette Dasch, Sunnyi Melles, Theresa Kronthaler, Thomas Oliemans, Henk Poort, Barry Atsma and the Dutch National Ballet. The fantastic soundtrack was recorded by the choir of the Dutch National Opera, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Metropole Orchestra and the Dutch String Collective under the direction of Marko Letonka.
