With the "Opernhaus im Quartier" in the former Sternen cinema, a unique venue for music theatre, concerts, educational formats and digital art for all age groups is being created in Zurich-Oerlikon – a vibrant space that opens up new ways of engaging with opera. The opening highlight is the new children’s opera "Herr der Diebe", based on the famous novel by Cornelia Funke and composed by three students of the Zurich University of the Arts. Singers from the ensemble and guest artists, pupils and members of the orchestra academy appear together on stage. In the music theatre evening "Werckmeister Harmonien" by Thom Luz, five piano tuners search for order in the chaos of the world, drawing on texts by Andreas Werckmeister and music ranging from Heinrich Schütz to Charles Ives. The "Cocktail & Movie Nights" complement selected premieres of the season with thematically related films – in a relaxed atmosphere and in personal exchange with participants of the respective productions. The programme is rounded off by weekly workshops, open spaces, as well as the popular "Musikgeschichten" and further formats inviting audiences to participate and explore.
