The Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich are continuing their collaboration: following their joint Rachmaninoff cycle in 2023, the two ensembles now present a Prokofiev Cycle. The programme features four of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies, among the most significant orchestral works of the twentieth century. In addition, each programme includes one of Prokofiev’s concertos, performed by internationally renowned soloists such as cellist Sol Gabetta, violinist Hilary Hahn, and pianists Daniil Trifonov and Hayato Sumino. These key works enter into dialogue with compositions by Swiss composer Dieter Ammann, one of the most influential artistic voices of our time. The performances are conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House, and Paavo Järvi, Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, who will once again also exchange orchestras.
