Abstract
Viennese composer, teacher, and publishing editor Roman Haubenstock-Ramati was a pioneering advocate of new forms of notation in music. He transformed musical notation into graphic representations and developed the form of variably playable musical mobiles. The renowned Gringolts Quartet and Swiss composer and oboist Heinz Holliger will perform compositions in variable playing forms by Haubenstock-Ramati, including his Second String Quartet and Multiple V, which was dedicated to Heinz Holliger, in a conversational concert on the day of the premiere of Amerika. The chamber music program will be complemented by works by composers who have stylistically influenced Haubenstock-Ramati. In addition, Heinz Holliger, who maintained a close friendship with Haubenstock-Ramati, will talk about the life and ideas of this fascinating modernist music artist.
