Abstract
With the children’s opera "Herr der Diebe", the Zurich Opera House opens a new venue: the former Sternen cinema in Zurich-Oerlikon becomes the setting for a thrilling music-theatre adventure. In Cornelia Funke’s novel of the same name, the abandoned Stella cinema also serves as the refuge of a gang of orphans. Scipio – the "Herr der Diebe" – their mysterious leader, has arranged this hideout for them and supplies the group with stolen goods from his nightly raids. No one knows his real name or where he comes from. Not even Prosper and Bo, who have found shelter with the gang while fleeing from their aunt Esther. But the persistent detective Victor Getz is on their trail, and a mysterious assignment soon puts everyone in danger.
The libretto by the Swiss playwright Andreas Sauter is set to music by three composition students from ZHdK.
