Nicole Tobler ist Drehbuchautorin und Schauspielerin. Sie studierte an der renommierten Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen «Konrad Wolf» in Potsdam-Babelsberg und erhielt ihr Diplom mit Auszeichnung. Festengagements führten sie ans Theater St. Gallen und an das Theater Aachen, Gastengagements an das Theater Konstanz, Theater Basel und das Opernhaus Zürich. Seit 2008 ist sie freischaffend als Schauspielerin, Sprecherin und Regisseurin tätig. Seit ihrem Masterabschluss in Drehbuch an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste entwickelt sie für das SRF als Co-Autorin eine Serie. Für eine weitere Serienentwicklung als Creator erhielt sie 2022 eine Förderung der Zürcher Filmstiftung.

Little Hexe Hillary, a witch, wins two tickets for the opera in a radio competition. She’s quite proud of winning – until she realizes she has no idea what opera is. And when it’s time to collect the prize, her disappointment couldn’t be bigger: all she gets is two pieces of paper. But she’s not so easily put off: Now that she’s won those slips of paper, she wants to know what it’s all about. Her Little Witches from A to Z lexicon helps her out: «Oper ist Theater, wo alle nur singen.» Or, «opera is theater, but everyone sings instead.» That’s got to be some kind of a curse – who volunteers to sing?! Naturally, Hillary can’t help but trying out the spell, which she thinks is a singing curse. Something appears to have gone wrong, though, because Maria Bellacanta appears, conjured up out of nowhere. But: not only is Maria Bellacanta a federally-certified witch, she’s also an opera singer. Together, they explore the world of opera, and Hillary learns that sometimes it’s easier to express oneself with music than it is with words.
This performance includes excerpts from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Gounod’s Faust.

Rebeca Olvera is from Mexico. She studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City and was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House from 2005 to 2007. She subsequently became a permanent ensemble member here and sang roles including Adina ("L’elisir d’amore"), Norina ("Don Pasquale"), Berenice ("L’occasione fa il ladro"), Giulia ("La scala di seta"), Rosina (Paisiello’s "Il barbiere di Siviglia"), Blonde ("Die Entführung aus dem Serail"), Madame Herz ("Der Schauspieldirektor"), Dorinda ("Orlando"), Isolier ("Le comte Ory"), Adalgisa ("Norma"), and Zaida ("Il turco in Italia"). In doing so, she worked with conductors such as Ralf Weikert, William Christie, Marc Minkowski, Nello Santi, Adam Fischer, Fabio Luisi, Diego Fasolis, Franz Welser-Möst, Emmanuelle Haïm, and Alessandro De Marchi. She gave concerts with José Carreras in South America and Europe (including the Carreras Gala 2007 on ARD) and with Plácido Domingo in Mexico. She sang Adalgisa alongside Cecilia Bartoli at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Isolier at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Clorinda ("La Cenerentola") at the Vienna State Opera, and Contessa di Folleville ("Il viaggio a Reims") at the Royal Danish Opera. She also appeared as Berta ("Il barbiere di Siviglia") and in the gala concert "Carmencita & Friends" at the Salzburg Festival. In Zurich, she was most recently heard as Despina ("Così fan tutte"), Musetta ("La bohème"), Frasquita ("Carmen"), Mi ("Das Land des Lächelns"), Stasi ("Die Csárdásfürstin"), and Waldvöglein ("Siegfried").

Susanne Grosssteiner
Susanne Grosssteiner, Sopran, stammt aus Österreich. Sie studierte an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, war Finalistin beim internationalen Gesangswettbewerb Klassik-Mania, Stipendiatin des Richard-Wagner-Verbands sowie Preisträgerin beim österreichischen Musikwettbewerb Prima La Musica. Ausserdem gewann sie den 1. Preis beim Internationalen Nico-Dostal Operettenwettbewerb. Am Landestheater Vorarlberg sang sie Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore) und Brautjungfer (Der Freischütz), bei den Schlossfestspielen Stadl Julia (Der Vetter aus Dingsda) sowie am Stadttheater Wels in Dido and Aeneas. Als Mitglied des IOS war sie auf der Bühne des Opernhauses Zürich u.a. als Armande in Martinůs Zweimal Alexander, Jana (Jenůfa) und Virginia (Das Gespenst von Canterville) zu hören.
