Abstract
It should really be the most wonderful day in Figaro and Susanna’s lives – after all, it is their wedding day. But their employer, Count Almaviva, who is also in love with Susanna, does everything in his power to delay the marriage ceremony. Figaro is ready to fight, but all his intrigues come to nothing. In the end, it is Susanna and the Countess who jointly take matters in hand. However, they too fall prey to confusing emotions in the dangerous game with the power of Eros. The sense of relief is intense on all sides when order is restored – at least apparently – at the end of this unbelievable day.
In this revival production, the Countess will be sung by the South African soprano Golda Schultz, who celebrated a great success as Sophie at last year’s Salzburg Festival. Her jealous husband will be sung by John Chest. The Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann will make her début in the role of Susanna, and the Russian baritone Alexander Miminoshvili will return to Zurich Opera House as her restless fiancé, Figaro. Ottavio Dantone, a welcome guest in Zurich and one of the world’s most important conductors in the baroque and classical repertoire, will be at the rostrum.
