Dance Workshop

"open space tanz" offers a framework for anyone who wishes to engage with dance beyond technique and the practice of steps. This weekly workshop is aimed at people who would like to experiment, improvise and create through dance and movement. We explore contemporary concepts of dance and the body, choreographic working methods and forms of expression, while also establishing connections to current productions of Zurich Ballet.

Wednesdays, 19.00 to 21.00, free admission




On April 8 and 15, as well as May 6, "open space tanz" will take place in Balletsaal A: From the box office, take the stairs toward the Studiobühne.




From 20 May to 24 June, "open space tanz" takes place across the city and is held outdoors in various parks and green spaces.

We meet as usual at 19.00 at the indicated meeting point, but we do not necessarily remain there for the entire session.

We dance in all weather conditions!
Please wear clothing appropriate to the weather.

Please note:
"open space tanz" only takes place on the dates published online in the calendar. We recommend checking in advance, as sessions may be cancelled at short notice and removed from the schedule.
There is no "open space tanz" during the Zurich school holidays, on public holidays or during the Zurich Opera House summer break. The programme resumes after the opening festival in mid-September.

"Who is "open space tanz" for?"
"open space tanz" is open to participants aged 16 and over.

"How much does "open space tanz" cost?"
Admission is free!

"Do I need to register?"
Registration is not required.

"Can I just drop in?"
"open space tanz" is not a progressive course. Interested participants can join at any time.

"What should I wear?"
Comfortable clothing or sportswear, ballet slippers, dance shoes, or socks. Changing rooms and showers are not available.

"How good do I need to be at dancing?"
No prior experience in ballet or dance is required. Enjoyment of movement and improvisation is more important than technique.
