Domingo Hindoyan hails from Caracas, Venezuela. He is Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and former Principal Guest Conductor of the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra. Starting with the 2026/27 season, he will become Music Director of the Los Angeles Opera. He began his musical training as a violinist in the Venezuelan music program “El Sistema” and subsequently studied conducting at the Geneva Conservatory. Masterclasses with Bernard Haitink, Jesús López Cobos, and David Zinman rounded out his training. In 2013, Domingo Hindoyan was appointed First Assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. There he conducted performances of, among others, “La traviata”, “The Rake’s Progress”, “The Rite of Spring”, and “Tosca”. Guest conducting engagements have since taken him, among others, to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra de Paris, the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Opéra national du Rhin, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, and the Royal Opera House Muscat. In the symphonic field, in recent years he has toured Japan with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, given concerts in the USA with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra, as well as in Europe with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. With the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, he has released six albums, including recordings of works by the Puerto Rican composer Roberto Sierra and most recently by Tchaikovsky. At Zurich Opera House, he has already conducted the ballet double bill “Petrushka/Sacre”.
