Abstract
On the occasion of Sergei Rachmaninoff's 150th birthday, the Philharmonia Zurich and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich will perform four concerts. In the course of this series, the respective principal conductors Gianandrea Noseda and Paavo Järvi will conduct both orchestras in both concert halls. Gianandrea Noseda will begin with the Philharmonia Zurich at the Opera House. The programme includes the famous Piano Concerto No. 3 with star pianist Yefim Bronfman and the monumental tone poem The Bells for solo voices, choir and orchestra, in which Rachmaninoff sounds sleigh bells, wedding bells, fire bells and death bells.
