Abstract
The American composer Morton Feldman is among the great pioneers and visionary thinkers of music in the second half of the 20th century. Many of his works open up a radically different approach to time and perception. With "For Philip Guston" from 1984, one of the composer’s most impressive pieces is heard. Feldman would have celebrated his 100th birthday in January 2026: a four-and-a-half-hour meditation that creates a floating sonic space. Feldman dedicated the work to his long and complex friendship with the painter Philip Guston. The Ensemble Opera Nova, made up of musicians from the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House, interprets this key work in a special concert setting featuring a comfortable reclining landscape.
