Michael Richter was born in Vienna and studied orchestral conducting with Leopold Hager as well as répétition with Konrad Leitner at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. From 2000 to 2003, he was engaged as a solo répétiteur with conducting duties at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, where he conducted, among others, performances of "Le nozze di Figaro," "Die Fledermaus," and Prokofiev’s "Romeo and Juliet." Since 2003, Michael Richter has been engaged at the Zurich Opera House, initially as a solo répétiteur and since 2012 as head of studies. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Franz Welser-Möst, Ingo Metzmacher, Gianandrea Noseda, and Fabio Luisi, as well as with singers including Diana Damrau, Piotr Beczała, and Jonas Kaufmann, and has performed concerts as a pianist and conductor in various European countries. He has also worked for the Salzburg Festival and the Lucerne Festival. At the Zurich Opera House, he has most recently conducted, among others, the family operas "In 80 Tagen um die Welt" and "Alice in Wonderland," the chamber opera "Der Traum von Dir," "Hänsel und Gretel," as well as the ballet "Anna Karenina."
