Workshop series for young adults 16 years and older

Contemporary musical theatre and choreography

One of the most thrilling works of contemporary musical theatre, Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern by Helmut Lachenmann, is to be performed in Zurich for the first time. Choreographer Christian Spuck will stage a new production of the piece, which in many ways transcends the conventional operatic form, with dancers from Zurich Ballet. Lachenmann refers to his unusual work, in which we can experience what it is like «to look with the ears and to hear with the eyes,» as «music with images.» The series of workshops will explore various aspects of the work, and besides attending a rehearsal, we will learn a great deal about the genesis of the new choreographic production of this work in conversation with dancers, singers and musicians. Naturally, the workshop series will also include group attendance at a performance of Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern.

Previous knowledge of ballet or dance is not required. Please take ballet or gymnastic shoes with you, if possible.
