Autumn Holiday Programme O Schreck - ein Schwein!

Discovering Ballets

Discovering works

For 7- to 12-year-olds

Das verzauberte Schwein!
In this three-hour workshop, the participants will have a great deal of animal fun with and about our family opera, Das verzauberte Schwein. The children playfully transform themselves into a wide variety of figures in the fairy tale and familiarise themselves with the story in order to understand, for example, what is the meaning of the mysterious book of destiny that the three princesses Mab, Dot and Flora open against their father’s orders. In the book, Flora discovers that she will not marry a handsome prince, but a pig. When she soon realises that the pig is an enchanted prince, she wants to march to the end of the world in her iron shoes in order to save him. We accompany Princess Flora on her eventful journey and help her to master the challenges that she encounters on her path to happiness, and listen to the music, which makes us want to sing along. After this workshop, the children are very well prepared to attend the performance of Das verzauberte Schwein.

Zurich Opera House aims to kindle young people’s enthusiasm for opera and ballet. Our offers are directed at all age groups ranging from children of pre-school and primary school age to young adults, and make these art forms and selected works accessible, appropriately to these age groups. We take our guests on themed tours behind the scenes at the Opera House and provide insights into the way we work and our artistic processes. At thematically structured workshops with an immediate relevance to practical implementation, we intensify these impressions and make work at the theatre come alive. We intend to raise awareness of the quality of art and stimulate children and young people to discover their own creativity. We seek a dialogue with young audiences and give them the opportunity to engage with art in an active way.
